Why Disney Transportation Should Be Part of Your Vacation Planning

Each Disney resort has its own vibe, dining options, and perks. But how do you know which one is the best fit for you?

When you’re choosing your resort, one thing that’s often overlooked is transportation. The way you get to and from the parks can make or break your Disney experience. Believe it or not, the right resort choice can actually save you time, unnecessary stress, and even make your trip feel a little more magical.

Why Transportation Should Be a Top Priority

You might think a Disney resort is just a place to rest your head at night, but it can be so much more than that. Time is one of the most valuable things at Walt Disney World. You’ll want more time to ride your favorite attractions, hug your favorite characters, and make those unforgettable memories.

And while you can’t actually add more hours to the day, choosing a resort that helps you maximize your time can make it feel like you have more of it. The right resort doesn’t just give you a place to sleep—it makes your entire Disney experience smoother, easier, and even a little more magical.

Not All Transportation Is Created Equal

Every Disney resort offers transportation to the parks and Disney Springs, but some make getting around much easier than others. Resorts with multiple transportation options are ideal because they mean less waiting, less hassle, and more time enjoying your trip.

Here’s what you should know about each transportation option:

  • Monorail: One of the fastest ways to the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. If you’ve got a stroller, you usually don’t need to fold it (unless it’s a side-by-side double). Wheelchairs and ECVs roll right in, making it an easy option for all guests.
  • Skyliner: It runs nonstop, so even when there’s a line, it moves quickly. It’s stroller-friendly (unless you have a side-by-side) and accessible for wheelchairs and ECVs with help from a Cast Member.
  • Boats and Ferries: The Ferry to Magic Kingdom is fully accessible—strollers stay open, and guests using wheelchairs or ECVs can roll right on. However, smaller boats depend on water levels. For the safety of all Disney guests, if a boarding ramp is needed, check with a Cast Member at the dock (or look for a posted sign) to see if accommodations are available that day.
  • Buses: The most common way to get around, but not always the most convenient. Strollers must be folded before boarding – no matter the size. Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs board first. If you’re more comfortable transferring to a bus seat, you can, but it’s not required. Cast members are happy to drive your ECV onto the bus if you prefer- just ask!

Every transportation option has its pros and cons, so choosing a resort with the best fit for your trip can make a big difference.

Not all resorts make getting to the parks equally easy. If you want to minimize wait times, avoid folding up strollers, or just have multiple ways to get around, choosing the right resort can make a huge difference.

Disney transportation can be a game-changer—but only if you know what to expect. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the options, don’t worry! When we work together, I’ll help you find the perfect resort so getting around is easy and stress-free, no matter who you’re traveling with.

Best Resorts for Magic Kingdom

If Magic Kingdom is your main focus, staying at a resort with monorail or boat access can make getting there (and back) much easier.

Here are the best resorts for quick and convenient access:

  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

If you’re staying at the Contemporary Resort, you’re so close to Magic Kingdom that walking is often the fastest option. Plus, Disney has added walking paths between all the monorail resorts, so if you’d rather skip the crowds, a stroll to the park is a great alternative. This is especially true for scooter users.

Best Resorts for EPCOT

If EPCOT is a must-see on your list, staying at a resort with walking access or Skyliner service will be your best choice.

Here are the best resorts for quick and easy EPCOT access:

  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

If you’re staying at Yacht Club, Beach Club, and BoardWalk Inn, you have the convenience of walking right to EPCOT’s International Gateway entrance. It can take 5 – 15 minutes, depending on the specific resort and your walking pace. Walking is a nice option because it gives you the flexibility to leave when you’re ready without waiting for a bus or boat. Plus, the path is scenic and easy to navigate!

For a smooth ride, the Skyliner connects both Riviera Resort and Caribbean Beach directly to EPCOT. While Pop Century and Art of Animation are great choices, they connect to the Skyliner through a transfer at Caribbean Beach. It adds a step (and another line) —so they’re a bit less convenient than Riviera Resort and Caribbean Beach Resort.

Best Resorts for Hollywood Studios

Like EPCOT, Hollywood Studios is easy to get to from resorts with walking paths, boats, or direct Skyliner access.

These resorts offer the best transportation options:

  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

If you’re staying at Yacht Club, Beach Club, or BoardWalk Inn, you have the option to either take a relaxing boat ride or walk to Hollywood Studios. The walk is around 10-15 minutes, depending on your pace, and is a pleasant, scenic route along Crescent Lake. It’s typically quicker than the boat, which can make multiple stops and sometimes has a longer wait time. The walk also gives you more flexibility, especially during busy periods when the boats may be crowded.

If you’re staying at Riviera Resort or Caribbean Beach Resort, the Skyliner is a fast and easy option that gets you directly to Hollywood Studios. Just like EPCOT, Pop Century and Art of Animation are still good choices with the Skyliner connection. But you’ll need to transfer to the Hollywood Studios line at Caribbean Beach Resort, which adds a bit more time to your commute.

Best Resort for Animal Kingdom

When it comes to getting to Animal Kingdom, things are a bit different. Unlike the other parks, Animal Kingdom is more remote, so walking from your resort isn’t an option.

If you’re staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you’re in luck—it’s the closest resort to the park. The resort is still a little further from the park entrance, and there aren’t any direct walking paths or bridges to make the journey easy or safe. But the bus ride will be quick and convenient!

Because Disney needs so much space for the animals, all transportation to Animal Kingdom relies on buses, no matter where you’re staying. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to factor in a bit of travel time, no matter which resort you choose.

Best Resorts for Disney Springs

If you plan to spend time at Disney Springs, resorts with boat or walking access make it easier to get there without waiting for a bus.

Here are the best resorts for easy Disney Springs access:

  • Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside & French Quarter
  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort

If you’re staying at Saratoga Springs, you’re in luck—you can just walk over to Disney Springs. The location makes it easy to grab a bite or do some shopping without waiting around for transportation. If you’re in the mood for a more relaxed ride, the boats from Port Orleans (Riverside & French Quarter) or Old Key West are a great way to take in the scenic views along the Sassagoula River as you head to Disney Springs. And it’s a nice change of pace from the usual hustle and bustle of Walt Disney World.

Deciding which resort to stay in isn’t about choosing where you’ll sleep—it’s about what is going to make your days easier. Whether it’s walking to EPCOT over a 20-minute trip on the Skyliner or choosing a peaceful boat ride over a crowded bus, having easy transportation can take your vacation from good to great.

I’ve seen how the right transportation options can make all the difference for guests. That’s why when we work together, I make sure that your perfect resort is not only one that meets your needs, but it also makes your days easier.

So, what’s your favorite way to get around Disney World? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear how you make the most of your time at the parks!

  1. I love the monorail! I know it has its drawbacks, but the nostalgia and the uniqueness is what makes it special. My favorite memory of the monorail is sitting in the front, getting to chat with the driver, and not being in the crowded cabin cars. Do they still let people sit in the front anymore?

    1. I also love the Monorail! It is quintessential Disney. Unfortunately, they do not let guests sit in the front anymore.
