What makes River Cruising with Adventures by Disney unique? Well, when most people think of a Disney vacation their mind probably goes to theme parks or even ocean cruises. But if you are looking for something a little more intimate and culturally immersive, their river cruises might be the way to go! You can choose between sailing the Rhine, Danube, or Seine rivers and experience a family-friendly and curated experience that everyone will enjoy. With an extra sprinkle of Disney magic, Adventures by Disney River Cruises are a vacation unlike any other!

Choose the Right Itinerary

There are three different river cruise options when you’re sailing on an Adventures by Disney River Cruise, the Seine, Rhine, and Danube. Each one is special and unique and has much to offer. Choosing the right one for your family based on your wants and interests is an important choice!

  • The Rhine River Cruise sails through Switzerland, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. You’ll have the opportunity to take part in activities like biking through scenic towns, visiting the Black Forest, and even exploring medieval castles!
  • The Danube River Cruise will sail through the heart of Central Europe. Experience the beauty of Budapest and the charm of Vienna while learning the incredible history of the region.
  • The Seine River Cruise is a great choice for travelers who want to wander through Paris, step into the history of Normandy, or dive into the beauty of Monet’s gardens.

Whether your interests lie in history, art, or adventure, you’ll want to consider what experiences are most important to you and your family. Whichever one you pick, Disney is sure to curate an amazing itinerary that balances learning about the local culture and family-friendly adventure.

Planning Tips for Your First Adventures by Disney River Cruise

Planning for an Adventures by Disney River Cruise might require preparing differently. Here are some of my top tips to make sure you feel prepared and ready for action.

  • Book Early: Booking early can ensure you get your ideal itinerary, stateroom, and dates. Adventures by Disney River Cruises are very popular and fill up fast so you want to make sure to get everything secured in time, especially if you’re planning to travel during the summer or the holiday season. This will also give you more time to plan activities before or after your cruise in gorgeous cities like Vienna and Paris.
  • Pre- or Post-Cruise Stays: Speaking of pre-and post-cruise stays, I highly recommend extending your stay on either end to experience more of the amazing port cities the cruises begin and end in. With options like Budapest, Amsterdam, and more, there is so much to see and do. Make the most of your time by taking one of the Disney-offered pre- or post-cruise stays with curated itineraries to extend the magic even longer!
  • Check the Age Requirements: While Adventures by Disney vacations are a family-friendly option, some of their trips have minimum age requirements. You’ll want to check to make sure your kids are in the right range to properly enjoy and experience the trip. Most itineraries are ideal for kids ages 8+, but certain parts may be more ideal for teens or adults. If you have younger children, I can help you navigate the itinerary options to make sure it’s the best fit for you and your family.
  • Know the Ports: One of the great things about traveling on a River Cruise, is that the boats dock right in the heart of the cities and towns you visit. This gives you more time and flexibility to explore with less time taking long transfers or worrying about logistics. Before you visit it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the ports and see if there are any sights you want to see or activities you want to do during your free time. Your travel agent (that’s me!) can even help recommend and coordinate any additional excursions you wish to enjoy.

Packing Tips for Your River Cruise

Traveling through multiple countries and ports that experience different climates can make packing for your first river cruise feel intimidating. Here are my top tips to make sure you feel prepared and ready!

  • Always pack layers: Weather can be hard to predict in Europe, especially if you’re traveling during the fall or spring. You’ll want to make sure to pack layers so you can stay comfortable in the chilly mornings through the warm afternoons. Lightweight sweaters and jackets will help you stay flexible for the temperature changes.
  • Comfortable walking shoes: You’ll be sure to do lots of walking on your river cruise as you explore the many beautiful towns and cities the ship visits. As you’re walking over cobblestone streets and through castles and vineyards you will be thankful to have a good pair of walking shoes, and perhaps another casual option for your time onboard the ship as well.
  • Attire: You’ll want lots of casual and comfortable outfits to relax in onboard the ship and explore during the day, however, you may want to pack a couple more formal outfits as well for dinner or special occasions during your vacation.
  • Rain gear: A lightweight rain jacket is always a good idea to bring with you on vacation, but if you forget, there are also umbrellas available for you to use on board. Just don’t forget to grab them when you get off in the ports if the weather is looking like it might shower!
  • Travel adapters and converters: Make sure to have a proper travel adapter and/or converter for the devices you plan to bring onboard. You’ll want to make sure you can use all of the items you pack!
  • Day bag: A small backpack or day bag is the perfect addition for exploring the ports on your river cruise. Throw in essentials like water, snacks, sunscreen, and souvenirs to make life easier. Something well-organized but lightweight will work perfectly!
  • Items for downtime: Things like a good book, a deck of cards, a journal, or tech items for playing games or watching movies are great to bring along for your relaxation time while on the ship to wind down after a day of exploring.

No matter which river you choose to sail, your first Adventures by Disney River Cruise will certainly be one for the books! With the proper planning and preparation, you can go into your cruise prepared to make the most of every moment and make memories that last a lifetime. Enjoy an unforgettable adventure full of culture, storytelling, and magic. As your travel agent, I am here to help you through the entire process, making sure you choose the perfect itinerary and so much more.
