The Best Insider Tips for Maximizing Your Time at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

Are you gearing up for a magical experience at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP)? As one of the most anticipated events of the year at Walt Disney World ® Resort, it’s essential to make the most of every moment.

1. Arrive Early

Make the most of your MVMCP ticket by arriving at Magic Kingdom® Park early. With party tickets, you can enter Magic Kingdom® Park as early as 4:00 PM, giving you a head start on enjoying the festivities and attractions. Be sure to factor in travel time to the park, as you’ll want to be entering the park as close to 4:00 PM as possible. While the party officially starts at 7:00 PM, some character meetups may begin earlier (check with a cast member in the area). If getting a photo with your favorite characters in their holiday outfits is a priority, aim to meet Jack and Sally, Pooh and Friends, and/or the Seven Dwarfs before 7:00 PM. Character wait times usually peak at the beginning of the party, so once it starts, consider exploring other experiences until later in the night. Just be mindful not to delay too much, as some character meetups end around 11:00 PM.

If meeting Mickey and his friends isn’t a top priority for you, take this opportunity to explore the park and enjoy as many attractions without overlays as you can. Doing so will reduce the number of attractions you’ll need to visit during the party, giving you more time for other experiences. It’s also a great chance to get to know the layout of Magic Kingdom® Park before the party begins officially, especially if you’re not familiar with it already.

2. Follow a Plan

With limited time available, it’s essential to prioritize the attractions and experiences you don’t want to miss. This is so important to having a “successful party” that I always work with my clients to make a list of top-priority rides and shows, and then help plan their evening around them. For example, if you are attending with your family, you can create an itinerary for the night focused on family-friendly attractions and entertainment instead of stumbling upon them. With so many activities to experience, it could be easy to get overwhelmed throughout the night. Not having a plan puts you at risk for missing experiences and can leave you feeling like you did not make the most of your time. In my view, individuals who believe that MVMCP isn’t worth the money either haven’t experienced the event firsthand or attended without a well-thought-out plan.

3. Don’t Overlook the Entertainment

MVMCP features special parades, fireworks, and stage shows that are exclusive to the event and can really bring out the magic of the season. Check the event schedule in advance and plan your evening around these spectacular performances, especially if you are looking for age-appropriate activities for your family such as the Disney Junior Jingle Jam or Club Tinsel. A lot of the night’s entertainment available is tailored for the whole family to enjoy, from young children to grandparents, so it isn’t difficult to find something for everyone to enjoy. If the entertainment activities are a top priority to experience, be sure to stake out a good viewing spot early to ensure a prime vantage point. To maximize your time, grab a snack before securing your spot, allowing you to indulge in a special treat while eagerly awaiting the start of the show! As a travel advisor, I can talk through priorities and determine the best viewing spot for you and your crew.

Important to Note: Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade takes place twice each night of the party. While it’s often suggested to wait for the second showing and use the time during the first parade to enjoy even shorter lines for attractions, it’s worth considering the weather forecast. If rain is expected later and catching the parade is a top priority for you, there’s no harm in attending the first showing. Although uncommon, there have been instances where certain characters, such as the Toy Soldiers, didn’t appear in the second parade. Keep these factors in mind when planning your schedule.

4. Dress for the Occasion!

Fully embrace the holiday spirit by dressing up in festive attire for the party. Whether you opt for ugly Christmas sweaters, Santa hats, or Disney-themed holiday merchandise, wearing themed clothing adds to the magic of the event and makes for memorable photos. Rest assured; you won’t be alone in going all out with your attire for the occasion. Dressing festively is a cherished tradition, and in reality, you might feel out of place if you don’t join in with the festive spirit.

5. Leave Time to Shop for Exclusive Merchandise

Commemorate your visit with exclusive merchandise only available during MVMCP. Make your way to the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A.® to find all the party merchandise available for purchase only during the party. From ornaments and apparel to souvenirs and collectibles, there’s something for every Disney fan to treasure as a memento of their magical evening.

The Emporium tends to get quite crowded with party attendees eager to grab their exclusive items, so I recommend utilizing the mobile checkout option provided on the My Disney Experience App. This convenient feature will help you save valuable time! If you have any questions about how to complete the mobile checkout process, don’t hesitate to ask one of the cast members for assistance, as it’s worth it.

6. Follow a Strategy for Character Meetups

You might be wondering why some people choose to spend their valuable party time meeting characters available during regular park hours. Well, in addition to various other exclusive opportunities, you get the chance to meet your beloved characters dressed in their festive holiday attire. This presents a wonderful opportunity for a memorable family Christmas card photo! Furthermore, you can seize the chance to meet rare Disney characters that aren’t typically available for meetups. For instance, you’ll have the opportunity to meet Jack and Sally, Mary Poppins, Toy Soldiers, Scrooge McDuck, and even Santa Claus! Keep an eye on the character meet-and-greet locations throughout the park using your party program.

7. Eat, Drink, and Be Merry!

The only thing better than a festive cookie and beverage during the holidays is a FREE cookie and beverage during MVMCP! Throughout the night you will be able to treat yourself to a variety of cookies along with either hot cocoa, apple cider, or eggnog that is available at various locations throughout the park. The cast members do a great job at keeping the lines at the cookie stations quick, so you won’t waste much party time indulging in these perfect on-the-go bites.

Due to the limited time available during the party and the availability of exclusive party-only snacks, skip the table service dining or the dessert party extras either during your early entry or throughout the party. These options either don’t offer enough value or require too much time to be worthwhile. From savory to sweet, there is a holiday-inspired snack for everyone. To be a lot more efficient during the party, I recommend looking up what exclusive snacks and sips are available and prioritizing what you want to try during the party. Make sure to utilize the mobile ordering option on the app when you can during the party.

8. Embrace the Holiday Overlays

Once the party officially kicks off, some attractions receive special holiday overlays during the party, adding an extra dose of holiday cheer to classic rides. Following the projection-based show ‘Frozen Holiday Surprise’ featuring Olaf and friends in front of Cinderella Castle, the castle receives a festive makeover, marking the commencement of the holiday celebration. During the party attractions with overlays may feature holiday music and special festive lighting, adding to the magical holiday cheer. Take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy these unique party overlays on attractions such as Space Mountain®-Holiday Run or the Tomorrowland® Speedway’s Race Through the Holidays. These attractions offer entirely unique experiences exclusive to the party, so don’t overlook them just because you’ve ridden them before. Keep in mind that Disney Genie+ Service is not available during the party, so it’s crucial to prioritize which attractions you want to experience and utilize the My Disney Experience App to monitor wait times effectively.

Bonus Tip: While Disney Genie+ Service is unavailable during the party itself, it can be utilized by MVMCP ticket holders in the three hours leading up to the start of the party. This offers an added benefit, allowing you to enjoy more of Magic Kingdom® Park in its usual holiday atmosphere without the need to purchase a day ticket.

9. Exploding with Christmas Cheer

For those eager to make the most of Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show, which can only be seen during the party, I have a few tips and tricks to enhance your experience. Firstly, decide what view you want to have during the show because surprisingly, not everyone wants the same view. Stand further away from the castle for a better view of the fireworks or closer to enjoy more of the projection elements. A side view may not be a bad option for those who want to make a quick getaway after the show to more attractions. Don’t forget to check the event schedule and plan accordingly.

10. Capture the Memories but Don’t Forget to Live in the Moment

Finally, don’t forget to capture the magical moments of your evening at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. This is made a lot easier with numerous photo opportunities throughout the park and take advantage of the Disney PhotoPass Experiences. Don’t feel guilty for snapping photos with beloved characters, enjoying festive treats, or marveling at the enchanting decorations, as these are memories that will be cherished for years to come. However, take the time to truly enjoy your time with loved ones, not through a lens. This event celebrates the true meaning of the season so let yourself soak in soak in every enchanting moment of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

By following my expert tips and tricks, you can make the most of your time at MVMCP and create lasting memories that will fill your heart with holiday cheer for years to come.
